Flash- the links I posted are info on how to grow phyto and which phytos are best for what.I ordered from florida aqua farms.Iso is more of a clam thing but everybody will use it.Its harder to grow, well harder to get started to grow once you get a culture going its usally good. When you start from disc it can be tircky. It looks like my new Iso crashed, well didnt crash never even started.Thats the problem going from a disc, somtimes they dont start or last.Ive never had ANY luck starting from DTs.My Nanno is going well though. The stuff I make is good for monthes in the fridge, your supose to shake it daily but Im usally lucky to shake it weekly. But you should shake it daily. If you want to grow it you can email me and Ill tell you what to get and maybe we can do the demo/setup at your house if your going to be on the tank tour.

Foam Jocky- WOW 10 gallons, lol thats alot of phyto!!! I usally brew up a batch of about 2 gallons then wait a couple monthes till it runs low and brew another from the stuff I have in the fridge. If I try and brew all the time I just get lazy and dont keep up with it and it becomes a hassle for me.
How big is you actual fish tank ?

Which one???? I have a 100 & 180 w/connected sumps for a combined system of over 300gal, a 20 long that will soon convert from hospital/penitentiary (coral banded shrimp doing hard time for mass murder of snails ) to a frag tank,. and a 55 I was storing live rock in that my birdmouth pain in the wrass is now banished to. Plus some f.w. tanks. And like Palmer I too need a bigger tank, much bigger! I would like to set up a large fish tank and a huge reef and modest frag and knock off the smaller ones.

.
We can do the demo at my house. How long will it take jasonak, and can you or somebody with experience help me with setup so everything goes smoothly?

I will need a headcount so I can be sure I can accommodate > LET ME KNOW if you are available on Saturday the 24th, 12:00, for an informal demonstration on growing your own phytoplankton to feed corals, clams, and what not.

I would also like to do a tank tour, So, to pull it off we need a "move it along" enforcer, and organizer. Can somebody stand up and volunteer to take this one....maps? We can start from here, my house, with the phyto demonstration on the east side of town. Then work our way to spenard for a final stop at somebody's house or restaurant for pizza and beer.

Personally I don't think we can pull it off in under 2 hours, or maybe even 4. But I think for this type of meeting we definitely need to get started with headcount and logistics.

Does starting at 12:-- at my house on the 24th work for everybody ?

If we can get the ball rolling on this we should probably start a new forum thread, or have a members only area to talk about it. Joe? Rust? Jburp? jason? Blue? foam? trace? e2x? Please Advise.

Anybody newbies?, I'm a newbie, so don't let me fool ya! I'm always looking for advice, and been only doing it for over a year (saltwater), that's why I joined this forum in the first place.

Ok, I just created the new Member's Only section of the forum and I added a topic for the October 09 Tank Tour. This new section will protect all new topics and posts that you make. You can post your addresses in there and only people who are logged in to the site (registered members) can view the forum. Latest posts will still show up on the home page for everyone (even logged out ppl) but the users will be prompted to log in (if they haven't already) when they go to view the post.

Jump to the new forum: http://www.alaskafragswap.com/forum/ind ... opic#p2032

I'll gather up all the addresses and make the map. Let's get this organized! :D

This will be a great opportunity for people new to the hobby. I am looking forward to seeing different approaches on filtration and rock stacking. Also, if you or anybody you know has a LUX meter (light meter) I'd be curious on what some of the reefers are outputting as far as light intensity.
